I have a 2013 moto g 8gb (xt1032). A few days ago, on the micro usb port on the bottom, the receptor for pin 5 snapped off, so now my phone only has 4 receptors for the pins on the end of the cable, not 5. I have looke it up, and have found that the pin that it has no receptor for is the ground pin. Some usb cables still work in my phone, like the official motorola one, and my lg g pad 8.3 one, but some do not, such as the one for my UE Boom portable speaker. Is it safe to have no receptor for the ground pin, so should i get it replaced?

On a 5 pin port, pin 5 is VDD, the negative charging lead. So without pin 5 you can't charge the battery. If you have an 8 pin port (or other port), pin 5 may be used for something else. (The microUSB port is now a standard, but not a "standard" standard.)

Hi Rukbat. Strangely, i am still able to charge the phone, so pin 5 must be different on some usb leads. I think it is the ground for some leads.
