What is draining my Verizon S4's battery so fast?

So i recently got a new S4 and I'm having issues with the battery life. I'm only getting 7-8 hours of life on a single charge with moderate use. Right now it's on 90% with 32 minutes of use. The only thing i noticed that's weird is sometimed android OS uses more battery than my screen and my phone heats up below the camera when i have my data on. Also GSam battery monitor is saying my battery is going up to around 96°F but this doesn't sound warm enough to cause issues. Anyone have any clue what could be going on? Thanks

The phone could be doing a lot of app updating the first week or so. And you should have conditioned the battery. (Read The Care and Feeding of Lithium Polymer Batteries for the part they left out of the manual.) Most people are happy if the hone lasts through a work day.

Often live updating or constantly processing widgets (virtual pets, etc) will drain your battery pretty fast

Thanks for the info, I haven't even had it for a week yet so I'm guessing it could get better once everything finally is done updating and what not.

Np. You can also check what you have turned on (do you constantly leave GPS on?) and also root and install a CPU altering app like SetCPU to underclock the phone (thus saving a little juice, at the expense of smooth use and transitions). I used SetCPU on my old S4, nice app
