How can I stop my old messeges from downloading into my phone inbox?

I hit sync messages on my phone thinking it would only download the texts I haven't deleted yet, but every previous text is downloading into my inbox. There are hundreds of conversations with hundreds and some thousands of texts downloading. I have deleted whole conversations but more keep popping up. I would just like to stop them from popping up anymore. It slows down my phone and it's really annoying. lol I have over 7000 texts in my inbox now.

Welcome to Android Central! That behavior is odd--the Messaging app shouldn't be able to reload deleted text message conversations from a server. Can you tell us exactly where this Sync Messages option is? In the meantime, go to the App Manager, select Messaging, and Clear Cache/Clear Data, then Force Stop. Do the same for Messaging Storage, if there's an app by that name.
