Basically, my HTC One M8 had a 50lb weight dropped on it in the gym. It had the Dot View case on at the time but it was still obviously enough to crack the screen. I took it to local high rating store to fix since I heard HTC turn around time was in the weeks and these guys could do it in a day. Whether or not this was a good idea, is another conversation.

Anyways, long story short, I get phone back and it defaults to selfie when in Camera mode. I tried messing w/cam settings, I try updating it. Nothing.

SO now I'm wondering if the dropped weight played a role and knocked a small cable/wire loose....

Still not sure only why the selfie would work...

The guy at the Cell phone repair didn't seem to be able to tell me he checked that part out but he really seemed like he was rushing. Not sure what to do...

Welcome to the forums. There was probably some kind of physical damage done, like you said. However, there is really no way to tell until it is disassembled. It could be anything from a damaged cable/ribbon, to even that segment of the motherboard.
