I am unable to connect my Samsung Note 3 to my pc as a storage device.

AC Question

When connected to the computer (Windows 8.1) using an USB cable, my Samsung Note 3 running Lollipop (Android 5.0) will only connect as an MTP device. When I used the settings menu on my phone it only offers the choices of MTP, PTP or "Media device (USB 3.0)." When I use device manager, the phone shws up as a portable MTP device. When I check the properties of that item I get an error message:

"This device cannot start. (Code 10)

The process hosting the driver for this device has terminated."

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver from Samsung's download site but to no avail.

Does anyone have any ideas about how to change my USB device from MTP to storage? Thanks.

Not any more. Android doesn't show a phone as a storage device any more, it only shows as MTP or PTP (or media device if it's plugged into a 3.0 port). To get to the actual storage device (IOW, what "device" means in Linux), you have to use adb or a terminal app and the shell or some other program that accesses storage.
