Notifications on lock screen not opening to app after Lollipop update

Just updated and still getting used to this...on my lock screen (set to swipe, no security) I see notifications (as per my settings: "show all content") but when I click on the notification, instead of opening that app, like it's supposed to do, it just makes the notification bright, shows a bright gray square on the bottom half of the screen, and says "swipe screen to unlock"

Pretty frustrating...any ideas?

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? Sounds like a Samsung. I think that's how you have to open the app from the lockscreen--tap the notification, then swipe to unlock. On my Nexus 5, I have to double-tap the lockscreen notification, and the app opens (as long as I don't have to unlock the screen--I use Smart Lock). If I don't have a Trusted Device connected, then I think after double-tapping the notification, I still have to do my screen unlock pattern.
