Is it normal to not have a status bar on my phone while i'm updating my software?

Yesterday morning, I pressed the update botton for software update and then my phone turned off. But the problem is up until now my phone won't turn on. Then it doesn't have any status bar that shows how my software update is going. I really need your help!!!!!
