What is the use of the red antenna in the Galaxy S4?

I bought a S4 for a previous owner and upon taking the phone apart I realized it did not have a red antenna it is supposed to have on the left side. The blue antenna is still there. The phone seems to work well without it but I'm wondering if it is needed or would be beneficary to get a new part for my phone. Thanks
