So recently I shattered my old phone (the camera does not work and the screen is somewhat decent). I might get a friend's old Samsung phone which is the same brand as mine as well as the phone company. If I put my SD card into her phone, will there be a change with the phone plan or no?

If it's a GSM phone (AT&T or TMobile in the US or most carriers in the rest of the world), they can tell, but they won't care.

If it's a CDMA phone (Sprint or Verizon), they'll have to activate the phone (the SIM card in those phones is for data only - the connection to the network is based on the electronic serial number [ESN] of the phone).
