Is access to my new S6 really safe?

The new S6 has thumbprint access to unlock the phone. It seems secure and IT people say biometrics is the safest and most secure but......

I presume if I lost my phone, a true hacker could gain access.

Does anyone know with certainty if access by thumbprint is secure? If not, how would one make unauthorized access more secure. Thank you.

Welcome to Android Central! I think the most secure is a complex random alphanumeric password, with the phone being encrypted as well. The main caution about the fingerprint sensor that I would give is that we see posts from people who describe their sensor no longer functioning correctly, and then they either forget their backup PIN, or remember it but it still doesn't work. This has actually happened to one of our Ambassadors, Almeuit--he figured out that you have to turn off Google's 2 step authentication first. But it was still a big hassle.

Imo, I think fingerprint is the most secure - someone could stand behind you and copy your code. Not that it is likely to happen, just that imo, fingerprint is more secure
