Welcome to Android Central! It sounds like the first thing to do is figure out why it's overheating and the battery is draining. Charge up to 100%, then let it drain to 20-30% with normal usage, without charging in between. Then show us:

1. The main Settings>Battery screen.
2. The fullscreen battery graph screen (which shows Awake time and Cell Signal Strength).
3. The Screen category (to see total Screen On time).
4. The Cell Standby category, if present (to see Time Without Signal).

A corrupt file on the SD card is a common cause of overheating and battery drain, since it can cause the system's Media Scanner to get stuck on the file, which leads to excess CPU usage and battery drain. Unmount the SD card (in Settings>Storage), remove it, and reboot. You can also put the card in your computer and run chkdsk to look for bad sectors. http://forums.androidcentral.com/am...guide-using-chkdsk-fix-corrupted-sd-card.html

Another possibility is a failing or defective battery--try a different one.

What exactly happens when you try to turn on wi-fi? Does it turn on, but just not connect? Or does it turn on, then turn off by itself? Or are you not even able to flip the switch on?
