Why are my pic messages downloading out of order?

When i recieve pics from someone, they download as if they were sent a day earlier (not exactly 24hrs though). I originally thought the pics were disappearing but i recently found some of them when i scrolled back through a conversation. The time and date are set to auto. All other messages come in correct order. I tried turning auto retrieve off but that didnt help either

Were you maybe in an area with a bad signal? Pictures download over mobile data whereas SMS do not need mobile data. It could just be playing catch-up once you're in a better area.

No signal was good...i was sitting right next to the person who sent a pic to me. My phone alerted ne i had a message...when i open the thread theres nothing there, but if i scroll back it is placed a day earlier. It happens all the time with the same person
