Bookmarks on my Samsung Galaxy S3 no longer sync with my Chrome bookmarks

My chrome bookmark sync works fine on my laptop, desktop, and netbook so the problem is with my phone. My calendar, contacts, etc. sync fine on my phone. It's just my bookmarks that got lost. I'm running Android 4.4.2 I deleted my google account on my phone and added it back no luck. I've resynced on the chrome side but no luck. I've read there is an app to replace the broken bookmark sync, BookMarkSync.apk, but am reluctant to download some random app.

Welcome to Android Central! If you go to Settings>Accounts-Google>[your Google account], do you see Browser or Internet listed there? If so, make sure it's checked on.

Yeah, there isn't an option to do that. I did the same as OP and I'm regretting it.
