Why was there a sudden drop is battery life?

So I turned my phone (Sony Xperia z2) off for the night. Then in the morning I woke up to see it had gone from 90 % to 40%. When I see the battery consumption graph, it is just disconnected, Like a sudden drop.

The battery may be faulty....a dendritic short could, I believe, cause that.
