Why is my phone not working and just has a red light blinking?

My phone was not turning on last night so I did the factory reset. The reset did not go as smoothly as it did last time that I had to do it. I got a little Andriod with a red explanation mark on it. After a while, that guy went away and then I got a Andriod with Erasing... under it. Now, every time it does the Erasing Andriod then it goes to a black screen. When I try to turn it on from the black screen the red LED flashes. Eventually, it goes back to the Erasing Andriod screen however it goes right back to it after a short while. I have a Nexus 5 and I have had it for over 1 year.

Welcome to Android Central! Is this all while plugged into a wall outlet? Does it turn on at all if not plugged in? I would wonder about a dying battery.

If it does this while unplugged, then it sounds like some major problem with the hardware. Are you able to boot into Recovery? http://forums.androidcentral.com/nexus-5-rooting-roms-hacks/352008-guide-nexus-5-recovery.html
