How do I get the lollipop update for my moto g?

My phone has been acting up like crazy, I can barely do anything on it anymore. Including playing games, texting, going on the web, etc. My mom got the update two weeks ago and I STILL haven't received it. At this point I'm considering buying a new phone because I can barely unlock my phone. I was wondering if I could go to my carrier and get the lollipop update? And or how can I get it?
