I have a Galaxy s5. I will be traveling outside the U.S. in a few months and was researching international plans with my carrier, AT&T. I read some horrors reviews about how their international service doesn't work and customers wound up being charged very high fees even with the plan.

I want to use my phone primarily for the camera and Internet access. Will turning off the mobile data and all roaming allow me to just use wi-fi and not face extra charges from AT&T?

If you don't want to use any roaming at all (mobile data and calls) you can just switch airplane mode on and switch WiFi on and off when you need it.

Airplane mode may be the way to go I agree, but you may also want to look at your SMS settings. Not sure what your defaults are on your device but received and sent MMS messages may turn on mobile data automatically. Usually it's just for the message and nothing else and turns itself off right after, but if by default your device is set to send or receive while roaming this could defeat your attempts to stay roaming free.
