Number 1 icon on message icon

I have a Pantech p9070 and here lately I haven't been able to download any MMS. My data is on and I've tried turning on the Wifi and tried it with Wifi off. Also there is a number 1 in a red circle on my messages icon on my home page that I can not get to remove. I have tried turn the phone on and off, I have removed the battery but yet it still returns. Please can anyone help me?

Welcome to Android Central.

Try Settings, Apps, All, scroll to Messaging, and select Clear Cache. A Power Off and Restart after that may help.
If no go, try a Cache Partition wipe.
If still no go, get back to us.
