Why can't I manually correct Google Voice text input?

A

AC Question

This is absolutely driving me crazy. I have a Droid Razr Maxx HD that I bought recently, running Android 4.4.2. When I go to compose a text, I use the Google Voice button and it transcribes my voice. Invariably, it will screw up a couple words. On my old android phone, I would simply click the place where the text was wrong, backspace, and type in the correct text manually. This phone won't let me do that. I can place the cursor, but it's like the keyboard is locked. I can't erase individual words placed by Google Voice or type anything new. If I put the cursor at the very end of the paragraph, sometimes it will let me erase the whole paragraph, but that's not helpful because I have to start over and I have the same problem.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. My old phone was a million times more intuitive to use than this thing. I'm either going to get this fixed or toss this phone in the nearest body of water.

THANKS.
