Can you just silence notifications and not ringer?

I can't stand when I get woken up at night by notifications. I always silenced the on my Samsung galaxy. I can't figure out how to silence my texts without silencing everything. I need to hear my and phone ring. Help! Seriously considering switching back to Samsung. I also can't block calls. I don't know if that's an lg thing or Verizon though. These 2 things could have me returning this phone. I like it but these features are important to me.
