Why are my downloaded pics saving for two different apps?

I have a lot of pictures downloaded to my device (ZTE Grand for Cricket) but when I try to transfer them (by USB) to my laptop (Windows 7- Photo Gallery), almost all of them are unreadable. Only a few open properly. I noticed through "Downloads" that only pictures marked with the "Gallery" icon make it through. All the rest are marked with Google Photos icons and not a single one properly opens on my laptop. Is there any way to set how pictures download to my phone? Or will I have to fix my laptop instead?

Maybe I should clarify what I'm asking for help with.
Downloads show the list of pictures I downloaded with one of two icons, either the gallery app or Google photos.
Only those with the gallery icon display on my laptop when connected.
Is there a way to set how my pictures are downloaded on my device?
OR
Will I have to update or modify the gallery program on my laptop?
