Welcome to Android Central! Which carrier do you have? If it's Virgin Mobile, you probably have to talk to them about switching the number from the old phone to the new phone, since Virgin Mobile uses CDMA. With GSM carriers (like AT&T and T-Mobile), it's just a matter of transferring the SIM card from the old phone to the new one.

They also may have a web page on which you can change the ESN number of the phone you're using. (Some carriers do, some don't, and it varies from time to time. Verizon, for example, has been on and off about changing it yourself for years. Sometimes there's a place to do it, sometimes you have to call them to do it.)
