Welcome to Android Central! Install what app? If the thief hasn't turned off the phone's network connection or power, then you could install an app remotely from Google Play Store on your computer browser, but you wouldn't be able to configure it remotely.

The very first thing you should do is change your Google password. This will prevent the thief from accessing anything sensitive in your Google account (like your Gmail, Calendar events, etc.). Then report your phone stolen to the police and to your carrier. Your carrier will blacklist the IMEI so that the phone can't be used as a phone.
