Why cant I update my Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1?

Okay, so here's the story. I stupidly tried to gain root access on this device a while back, and I did the exact same process for my phone and it worked fine. I tried it on my tab and it failed and bricked. I downloaded the offical rom and flashed it via Odin to my tab. I have no root and i believe that my flash counter is at 0, meaning my warranty should not be voided. Problem is, i cant get my upgrade from jelly bean to kit-kat. Why not? What do i do, is my only choice to get the kit-kat version rom and flash it via odin? Because if theres a simpler, or less risky way of doing this, i'd like to do it
