Note 3 stock Calendar Notification issue

[AC Question]

After the most recent Verizon OTA update on my Note 3, I get a duplicate notification for calendar events. I used to only get Google Calendar notifications since I turned off the stock calendar notifications. But now I get 2 notification, 1 from each service, for the same event. I also get the screen awakening notification when the screen is off. Since the stock notification is a "system" app, I cannot disable it. I have tried to unsync the calenders and turn off the notifications. But once my phone reboots for any reason, it enables sync AND turns notifications back on.

Anyone with similar issue or suggestions for solutions? I'd like to avoid a factory reset, but if it is a true solution, I'd be willing. TIA
