lcd broke, screen is black. Need to transfer pics, but I had a lock screen . . .

I have received my new phone and most everything has transferred, but I still have a couple of months worth of pics on the old one that I hadn't transferred. I had a lock screen and samsung tech is telling me "too bad, since your screen is black and you have a lock screen, there is no way to retrieve those pictures."
The phone is working otherwise. Anyone have any advice or am I just screwed?
