This noise drives me crazy when I get a few emails. I want to turn it off, but can't figure out now. Two agents at at& t tried to do it for me, but it is still doing it. I look at my emails frequently so I do not need to be alerted to them. I am a relatively new user so I need detailed instructions. Thank you.

Welcome to Android Central! Are you using the stock Email app? If so, open it, tap Menu>Settings, then select the email account in question. Look in the the subsequent menu for notification options. You can either turn them off, or change the tone to None or Silent, so that you still get the notification icon in the status bar.
