How to make Sveon SCT208 USB connector + Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 work so I can upload SD-card photos?

Before it died from old age, my old Samsung tablet had these little connectors (pre-micro USB era) that would connect a big fat old SD-card to my tablet and I could upload photos. For my new tablet (Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 (7.0N)) I wanted the same, so at the MediaMarkt in Spain I asked them for such a thing. They sold me the Sveon SCT208 card reader and HUB USB with a Micro USB connector but if I plug it in and put my SD-card in, nothing happens... no sign of connections whatsoever. Some people have suggested to change something in the tablet's settings to make it OTG compatible but that's where I stop following. Does this Sveon thingy work with Samsung to begin with? If it's possible to make it work, where should I change things in the settings? I just want to upload pictures taken with my camera... Thanks
