new android tablet

I'm in the market for a new android tablet and I'm having trouble deciding. My budget is not huge and I wouldn't mind a 7 or 8 inch one. I've narrowed it down to the Lenovo a8 and the 2nd gen nexus 7. My only concern is if it is still worth it in 2015, I don't want any sluggish performance or lag from the tablet. Is it still worth it or the lenovo a8 the better choice. Are there any other 7 or 8 inch mid range tablets I should consider?

what is your budget? what will you be using the tablet primary for?

It'll be for everyday casual use, reading surfing the web etc... My budget is around £150 and it's not actually for myself it's a gift for someone else.

It will be a replacement for a 2nd gen kindle fire non (HD) so any tablet I go for will be an improvement.
