Rooting a Galaxy SIII but am confused about tethering

A

AC Question

Hey there,

So I'm just getting into rooting. If I can tether my laptop to my phone and get internet without having to pay then whats the deal with your phone? Sorry this may be a dumb question but I cant find the answer anywhere. Do I have to still buy a DATA plan to get internet on my cell? If so I don't see any benefit here. If I have to pay for 3Gbs of data, then if I tether my laptop then It wont ever be free I'll be eating all my data up right?

Yes, the laptop will use your phone's data allowance. There is no free internet for your laptop....you are simply connecting it to the internet via your phone's mobile data, which of course costs.
Make sure your carrier or network provider permits tethering, at least on your particular plan. If they don't, there will be trouble when they detect it....for example, they may upgrade your plan to one that does allow tethering, but which costs more.
