My email syncs and marks prior emails as unread.

I look at my email, go through it all and mark my emails as read.
When my email syncs it marks ten to fifteen of the oldest emails as unread.
Is there any way to stop this?
The only option I can think of, and I don't want to set my phone this way, is to delete all my emails every time I read them.

I should have noted that the issue is with my new Samsung Note 5.
