Hi all, let me start by saying I'm a complete newbie to Android so bear with me. I've use ios for 8+ years and finally taken the jump.
So far so good but I have some niggles that I can't quite get my head around and it's frustrating me.

Firstly im using a Samsung S6 edge. My issues lie with notifications constantly popping up out of the blue. Then never shutting up until I read them. I use do not disturb over night but as soon as it disables itself the notifications are ready and waiting to wake me up. How can I stop these from coming through all the time but have a visual notification instead? Next is the visual notification that comes through with a text saying the message contents are blocked? All I want is the contacts name on the screen not that and another box saying the above... Is that possible?

Finally Rooting, is it worth it? Possible to do it? I always jailbroke all my devices but I know nothing about Rooting. Obvious I'm interested in finding more out about it though. TIA

I am not too sure on what you mean on your first question, maybe if you elaborater on that i may be able to help you out.

However the second is something i can gfivve an opinion on.
    Rooting,
    upsides
    1. You can remove bloatware these are apps that come on your phone pre-installed,you cannot manually uninstall them without rooting.Removing bloatware means more free space for your own stuff. You can also install aps onto your sdcard keeping your phone storage free and your data portable.

2.Custom Roms, these make rooting super easy and provide a whole new world.(one of the main reasons for rooting)They greatly expand on personalisation such as themes+boot animations. You can improve phone performance too, setting cpu clock speeds, and governors means the phone is adapted to you.You can increase battery life greatly by underclocking keeping your phone cool too.

Β£.some phones are not on the marshmallow upgrade rooting means you can get the latest version of android. However i suspect the s6 edge is getting the upgrade anyway.

    Downsides

You can brick your phone the samsung s6 is a great phone and very expensive too,if you are unsure on the steps and a ex ios person do some research and it could save you money and time.It is quite difficult to brick your phone however, any phone with access to boot loader and recovery can be salvaged.

All your data will be erased. This is like another user on your windows os.when you buy your phone you are a guest and when you root your phone you are "Super User" this means you have admin privileges. With a new user you also have no data and will have to start from scratch, however this can be bypassed using backups and restoring them as soon as you have rooted.I recommend Titanium backup or the pro ver.

You will most definately run into way more problems, phone developers go trhrough rigourous os testing to clear bugs before putting onto the market, custom roms are not put through the same process infact some are even opensource meaning you are putting your phone at risk and will have to install new updates to remove bugs every now and then.

Thanks for the quick answers there guys.

Basically I am getting all. Sorts of alerts coming through. Like weather etc. But they don't beep once. They beep all the time until I read them. Quite annoying at 6am. πŸ˜•
Then the messages come through with an audible alert but in the screen it states that the content has been hidden from the home screen. All I want to see is a notification of a message and who has sent it. Is that possible?

I'm keen to hear more about battery saving as I find the battery to be worse than my iPhone 5s....πŸ˜•

    Here you go.

For the other thing, have you gone into Settings, Sound & Notifications, where you can set things to suit your preferences? It may be that you still have the default settings that are on the phone when it comes out of the box.

Thanks, think I've sorted the notifications now although WhatsApp shows the message on my screen without me opening it which I'm a bit annoyed about. πŸ˜• no alerts going off all the time though. I've switched location settings off but that sort of stops other apps working properly. One thing I liked about ios Is the customization of alerts and location settings on each app. It seems with android that you can either switch it on. Or switch it off. Think I. Need more time to play about but that along with the appaling battery life is staring to think I might go back. 😐

    Hey Jonesy,

The notification that you receive from whasapp can be set from the app itself which can sometimes override what
you selected within the phone settings app.

If you have not changed the whatsapp setting to your preference you can do so like this.

    1.Launch whatsapp
2.top right is the icon with 3 vertical dots, tap that.
3.In the drop down tap settings.
    4.then choose notifications.
then choose no popup under message notifications and group notifications.

    how did that go?

The screen that all my apps are on. This issue is only when the phone is in use. Sorry I'm using ios terminology here but it's all I know.

Thanks for your help on this. Appreciate it. Do you know whether it is possible to root my device? I'm. Struggling to find stuff out as I don't know the correct terminology of it all. Think I've found that I can but the fingerprint scanner won't work? Do you have any preference to what tool you use to root?

I would not recommend rooting such a new device , but hold out till there are more stable ways.

I can point you in some directions, however Samsung pay will not work.

    http://www.tomsguide.com/us/samsung-...ew-2856-3.html

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/gala...-tool-t3103016

Do lots of research beforehand, what you mean is the Samsung pay will not work while your phone is rooted and apps such as Lloyd's online app will not work.

I do not have this device and so cannot guide you through this part of the process. You can get shops to do it for you I guess but please have a look at the links first.

Please click thanks or like for helping you out this far. πŸ˜‰thx for reading.

    Good luck anyway.
