Android on TracFone

AC Question

So my son has a Moto E on TracFone that's on its last leg. It seems to be losing apps every time he reboots, and the phone speaker is acting like it's blown. He needs a new phone. I know you can activate certain phones from other carriers on TracFone if you unlock them first. The question then is which ones? If I'm reading the TracFones BYOP page correctly, they can use pretty much any LTE phone, ATT GSM or any CDMA? Is that really true? So does that mean anything but a T-Mobile phone then? There's also a little blurb about "except Double Minutes card" on there. What's that all about?

I have a 2013 Sprint Moto X that's rock solid and I'm due for an upgrade. If I get that unlocked, can that be activated on TracFone?

Alternatively, my wife has a Verizon Galaxy S4, that's also due for an upgrade here soon. Can that be unlocked and activated on TracFone?
