Why can't I re-add my email account after changing the password?

A

AC Question

I use the standard email app for two hotmail accounts on my sony z3. Yesterday morning I changed the password to one of these accounts on my laptop. I couldn't then update this password on my phone so I removed the account instead. Since then I have been trying to add the account again but after attempting to sync it say 'Account cannot be found, it may have been deleted'. I can still log on to the account on my laptop, and on my phone browser.

I wondered if it is just impossible to remove and re-add an account so I tried removing my other hotmail account from the app. I had no problem adding this one back on though.

Does anyone have any idea how I can get my account back on the email app? It's very frustrating!

Thanks so much!

I tried doing it automatically first, then I tried following outlook's instructions:

If you're unable to use the app for any reason, you can still set up Outlook.com on your Android device. Here's how:

On your device, tap Email, then tap Add account.

Enter your Outlook.com email address and password, then tap Manual set-up.

Under What type of account is this? tap Exchange.

If there is a Domain field, leave it blank. If there is a Username field, enter your email address.

Enter your password.

For Server name enter s.outlook.com.

Make sure the Use secure connection (SSL) checkbox is ticked, then tap Next.

Choose your account options and tap Next.

To finish set-up, tap Done.

(My hotmail account did change over to outlook a couple of days ago - I don't know whether that has something to do with it.)

Anyway, that came up with the same message. I've just tried manually using imap, as per your link, but that came up with this message:
"could not open connection to server"

I'm totally confused!

You can access your Hotmail account on the web, right? If so, you shouldn't have to choose Exchange.

So when you select IMAP, you're entering these settings?

1Your Name:The display name you’d like others to see.
2E-mail Address:Your main address of the Microsoft Account in full
(yourname@hotmail.com, yourname@live.com or yourname@outlook.com)
3Account Type:IMAP
4Incoming mail server:imap-mail.outlook.com
5Outgoing mail server:smtp-mail.outlook.com
6User Name:Your main address of the Microsoft Account in full
(yourname@hotmail.com, yourname@live.com or yourname@outlook.com)
7Password:Your Microsoft Account password or an App Password when you have Two-Step Authentication enabled for your Microsoft Account.
8Remember passwordoptional
9Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)disabled
More Settings: Outgoing Server tab (screenshot)
10My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication:enabled
11Use same settings as my incoming mail server:enabled
More Settings: Advanced tab (screenshot)
12Incoming server (IMAP):993
13Use the following type of encrypted connection:SSL
14Outgoing server (SMTP):587 (if using SSL: 465)
15Use the following type of encrypted connection:TLS (if not available: SSL)

(From the link in my previous post.)
