My smartphone is a little computer that I use rarely as a phone. Why must I pay for the phone function, when all I need is data? Why not get a small tablet with a data-only plan, and use Google Hangouts for phone calls? I do it now at home, with my tablet on wifi, but my tablet is a speakerphone, filling the room with my phone call sounds. Does any tablet have a speaker whose sound can be for my ear only? I don't want to take the time to get out a headset, or even a bluetooth earpiece, just to answer a brief phone call. BTW, TIM in Italy allows (cheap!) data-only plans for smartphones, and Hangouts worked great for calls to Italy and USA.
