Samsung Galaxy S6 music skips horribly when screen times out using any app. Help!

I have used the stock music player as well as an aftermarket mp3 player from the Play Store. When the screen times out with the OEM headphones plugged in, the music skips and fast forwards. I extended the screen time out time to 10 minutes.. but I'd like to be able to turn the screen off.. anyone else had this problem? How do I fix it?

Have you tried using a different set of headphones to make sure its not the headphones causing the issue?
