I have a 2015 Chevy Sonic and it won't read me GPS directions

All I want it to be able to use Google Maps with my 2015 Chevy Sonic. The only way I ever hear directions is if I happen to be talking on the phone, then I hear them the background. How do I get it to interrupt my radio when I am driving and give me directions over the stereo. This is pretty important to me and I didn't realize that it didn't do this when I bought the car.
