How do I get rid of www.congratulations-lottery.com virus?

A

AC Question

It appeared on my Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and when I try to get out of it without applying for their mandatory choices....it locks me into my internet explorer. I can't get out without answering their required screens.

Welcome to Android Central! Force a shutdown by pressing and holding Power and Vol Down for at least 15-20 seconds. Then boot into Safe Mode, and uninstall any apps that might be responsible. If this started after installing a specific app, focus on that one. Then boot normally again, and see if the problem persists. https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-23216

If the problem persists, then it might be easier to do a full factory reset. After it's complete and you've finished the Setup Wizard, go immediately to the Play Store and stop any app from automatically installing. Now see if the problem persists.

In on a fresh install with no other apps installed, period. As straight from manufacturer One Plus Two as it gets, yet still getting the redirect on xda. They've had some aggressive ads in the past so imho it is just as likely from them.

I've had some bad stuff from there as well on several occasions...."Free iPhone 6s" pop-ups that you can't back out of. If you try to get rid of them by starting to answer the questions, you soon discover that they casually ask you for your Google account password. In fairness I've also had this pop-up from other sites.

I have the same thing going on, from congratulations-lottery.com
Seemed to notice it the first time when clicking an article from IFLS thru facebook. I've scanned for viruses, done malwarebytes, etc. and nothing.

I've blocked the offending site, and a similar one, in my ISP's broadband shield settings, which I've always had set to block phishing and malware. Hopefully, blocking individual sites by name will give extra protection.

I was able to get rid of this on my Galaxy S6 by:
(1) closing all apps (using the folder icon to the left of the home button);
(2) opening "Settings" and selecting "Applications"
- select "Application Manager" and then in all internet browsers (I had the default "Internet" as well as "Chrome") opening them and clearing data and the cache
- select "Internet", then "Advanced, then "Manage website data" and then deleting all in history
- select "Internet", then "Homepage" and cofirm that "Current page" or "Most visited websites" isn't selected and that the Default page is selected and NOT navigated to the offending site
(3) restarting the phone before opening any browser.

Hope this helps.

I have this issue so bad that it happens every 5 minutes. Galaxy S4. It started yesterday. I have not downloaded ANY APPS RECENTLY. I have found several people online that show a fix, but it does not work. Clearing data in browser, master reset, uninstall all apps, does nothing. Avast! And lookout both say my phone is fine.

I will be buying an iphone in less than a week if I don't find an answer. And I have owned over 10 androids. But never again after this. The lotto scam has rendered my phone halfway unuseable. I am distantly selecting all and copying in case I lose this entire message now.

Also, chrome does not have a feature to block sites. That would be nice if I could just add all the links to a list my browser would never go to, but this would be too easy.

Damn dude. You don't have to threaten to us about switching to iPhone, we don't care if you switch. Have you tried clearing cache and other settings like posted above? That resolved it for me.

This probably has more to do with the websites you happen to have visited rather than the absence of a fruit on the phone's case.;)

If you're using Chrome on your S4, make sure that you've not only cleared cache/data from Chrome in the App Manager, but also go to your Chrome browser on your computer, and make sure you clear the browsing history there (including cookies) "from the beginning of time," since that data can sync between Chrome on the phone and Chrome on your computer.

Its really not about what sites you're on. I factory reset my G3 and logged into the weather channel to see when the storm that hit my town was forecasted to be over and it did it. I didn't go to any other site than weather channel which my laptop had already scanned as clear with kaspersky. I have antivirus on both my phone and laptop. It only happens on my phone and I'm super hyper vigilant because I work with sensitive information at work. I don't know how to get rid of it. But it's forcing me to carry arround my 5lb computer just to do what my <1lb phone should be able to do. The only site that doesn't do it is facebook. Which almost makes me think facebook was hacked again.

In my own case, I have ONLY experienced the malware on my two iPhones. On my various Androids, not at all.
Clearing Safari didn't fix it for me, but the ISP block seems good so far.

Windows Phone seems the most malware-immune, based on my own experience.

Somehow my phone can't quote or reply. But thanks for the responses. Yes clearing cache does nothing. I have no computer and I'm not on wifi.

95% of my web surfing is on one site, a 14 year old gaming forum. I do not have any social media. No pornography. No downloading of music or movies. Absolutely no downloads I would consider sketchy. I can't even remember the last time I downloaded anything. I just don't feel like I'm a prime candidate for this to happen to.

Welcome to Android Central! It certainly can be related to sites that the user visits, but there are of course other ways malware can show up on a device. Keep in mind that these kinds of irritating popups aren't just limited to really shady sites dealing in things like porn or gambling any more. I've seen similar "You've won a new Nexus 6P" popup ads when inadvertently tapping on some of that annoying clickbait at the bottom of Buzzfeed articles and the like.

Were you using Chrome on both the phone and your computer? If so, did you try clearing cache/data from Chrome on the phone, as well as clearing your browsing history from the beginning of time on desktop Chrome?

I actually wouldn't be that surprised if sneaky adware like this started infiltrating into a gaming forum site. I assume that forum has ads, right? You might want to post a survey in that forum to see if others have experienced the same thing, and perhaps send a message to the forum administrator.

That's my biggest gripe with the web on a mobile device.

Spam ads that serve no purpose other than to annoy the heck out of you and maybe even install a sneaky virus onto your device.

I always keep tapping the back button and never returning to that website again.

With the kind that I referred to above, tapping Back has no effect. The phone is frozen on that page, more or less forcing you to start answering the questions in the pop-up, starting with 'OK'. Once you start, you can then back out without answering the whole sequence.

Actually, you can back out of the most difficult ones if you can press the back button 10+ times in one second. I've had to do this 4 times today already in 30 minutes of use. First 3 times typing this message I lost it. I am just using my phone less at this point so this won't bother me as much. Since there is absolutely no way to fix it.
