Why am I unable to receive email notifications on my Gear S2 from my Samsung Galaxy S4?

I just received a new Gear S2 for Christmas and all of the other functions are working properly: I can send and receive text and phone calls, I am able to get notifications from Facebook, etc. but for some reason I can't get my emails to work. I have restarted both devices, I'm using the Samusing mail app...any suggestions?

Check to make sure that the email app isn't black listed
