When a factory data hard reset doesn't work

My phone is frozen on the start up logo screen. I took out the battery to get the phone to turn off. I replaced the battery and pressed the up volume button with the power button to do the factory reset. It goes back to the logo screen and is still frozen. Now what. I just got the phone. I got through the initial start up and then had to power off to switch my phones (straight talk phone transfer). When I powered the phone back on this is when the frozen screen started happening. My account on Straight Talk is telling me that it is still in process of switching the phones, but this shouldn't effect turning the new phone on, should it?

Did you, from a powered-off state, hold Power, Volume Up, and Home? That is the correct procedure.
