Why can't I turn on my s5 after inserting a sim card

I just got a used s5, I was checking & playing w it, all was fine till I remove d battery to insert a SIM card in. Couldn't turn it on after that at all, the battery looks screwed so I got another battery to try, still can't turn it on. Pls advice. Thx.

It was working fine before removing the battery?

Can you ensure either battery is charged? Does a pc recognize the device if you plug it in to it?
