Can you expand RAM with internal storage on Androids?

AC Question

I heard that RAM can be increased via something called swap with a micro SD card. Is it possible to do this without a SD card? Perhaps creating some kind of partition in the device's internal storage?

I haven't seen any app that creates virtual RAM in Android.

When modular phones come out (that's what Project Ara is all about), you'll be able to remove the existing RAM module and plug in a larger one.

Remember one thing, though - real RAM or virtual RAM, if the CPU is 32 bit, it can only address a total of 4GB of memory - RAM + ROM + video. (And that can't be changed - it's like addressing a number larger than 999 with 3 digits.)
