Fingerprint lock wouldn't work all of the sudden. Any suggestions on why?

This morning I woke up to unlock phone and it required backup password. After turning phone off and on the same problem presented itself never asking for fingerprint to be done. I was able to get into phone thru gmail account and tried to find the problem with no success. Final result was to reset the phone. I was wondering if anyone would know why this happened or if this is to be expected as a glitch with the galaxy note 5?

Welcome to Android Central! Did the backup password work, or did that fail as well? We do see occasional complaints about fingerprint sensors glitching on various phones, which is why it's very important to remember the backup password.
