RCA is purposely selling Android virus infected devices with STAGEFRIGHT. RCA is refusing to give me a brand new tablet but will give me a reconditioned one if I pay to return it to some tech repair place. My purchase from WALMART was for a brand new RCA ANDROID 5.0 GOOGLE, with HANGOUTS pre-installed, tablet, free from damages...including viruses....I have shown proof of purchase, as well as proof this virus is on my tablet, and came with the tablet....Then mysteriously I have been denied access to these files...hmmm....

    Welcome to AC!
Stagefright is not a virus. It is a framework that is installed on all Android phones. Maybe you are referring to the stagefright vulnerability, which is also not a virus. It is just susceptible to them if you download MMS files from unknown numbers. But since this is a tablet, downloading MMS probably doesn't happen at all. And if it's running 5.0 or later, the vulnerability has been patched for the most part

UJ95x, in the time that I've known him as an Android Central Ambassador, has shown a remarkably deep understanding of Android.... far more than me, for example. I think you can trust his answers.

Welcome to the forums. Stagefright is a part of the Android OS; to be more technical, it's known as libstagefright. The exploit is named after the system that it affects, hence in this instance, Stagefright.

Is the Stagefright exploit a security issue? Yes. Is it a virus? No. Might your tablets have something going on? Possibly. If you could explain what the issues are, we can try to help better.
