Why did Peel Smart Remote disable my phone?

I saw the widget for the remote app on my lockscreen, and like zeus, I was an ***** and tapped it.
Now my phone screen is shaded, and I cannot select anything at all. How do I fix this, if I can't even unlock my phone? (screen dimmed, and not working)
I can't reset it or turn it on/off, as that requires me to use the screen to do so.

It's a known issue affecting many users. What phone do you have? You could try to force reboot and then disable that app. In some models you need to press & hold the power and volume down keys for 20 seconds, in others just holding power will work.
