galaxy 5s will not call out in areas it used to

about a month ago my phone stopped allowing me to call out in certain areas will work fine in other areas Verizon tech said I probable have bad antennae in phone and I should get new phone That sounds lame since an antennae should not have selective performance

If the signal is weaker in those areas, a bad antenna connection would selectively affect them. But replacing the antenna (assuming it's not just a bad connection) would be cheaper unless it's an old phone or you're looking for a reason to replace it.
