How can I reset the pin lock on my galaxy tab3?

I have a pin lock set up on my galaxy tab3 (when I distinctly remember making a pattern lock), and I can't remember it. I went to the android device manager and attempted to reset my password from there, but after I enter the new password and recovery message (to ensure that the change was applied) the lock screen on my tablet never changes, its still a pin lock even tho the recovery message has changed. Help!! Why won't my lock screen change like its supposed to??

Welcome to Android Central ADM usually doesn't work for this, in my experience. What happens if you fail the unlock enough times--does it ask you for your Google credentials?
