Why does it say connecting everytime I try too hook it up to youtube?

Like it worked for the longest time then I go and try to connect it to youtube and all it says in connecting and it doesn't connect after that it says error connecting to chromecast

Welcome to Android Central! So to be clear, this is only happening when you're trying to cast YouTube to your Chromecast?

Try rebooting the Chromecast. Open your Chromecast app (install it if you haven't already), select that device, tap Menu, then Reboot Device.
