Why does my s3 keep shutting off over and over even while it's charging?

It is not a very old phone, if i am remembering correctly its only 2 maybe 3 years tops. The phone was hardly used, being as it was an emergency phone, then I started using it more and it was perfectly fine, I do not update it due to risks and I was told not to. Its been perfectly fine, it worked normal until last week when I went to a friend's and got on the wifi, and it just started shutting itself off. sometimes when i receive a text, when i get on wifi, when I swipe the screen, or when it's barely moved. whats going on help please???

Welcome to Android Central! The S3 was released in 2012, so it's 4 years old--that's getting pretty old for a device.

Try a different battery. Batteries can degrade as they age, so it's possible the battery is no longer holding a charge.
