Why can I not get the Marshmallow update on my Samsung Galaxy S6?

I have gone into the settings and about device and tried to do update software however it says the newest software is installed even though I only have the android version 5.1.1

Note: this Q got a reply by Laura Knotex asking what model and carrier I had
I do not know how to reply to this answer but as I have now added I have an s6 with the carrier 3
